Brewed in collaboration with AleSmith Brewing Company.
This here is an IPA brewed with kveik yeast. “What the hell’s a kveik?” Pronounced “kvike” (rhymes with bike), it’s a traditional Norwegian yeast strain that ferments super quickly – as in, within a few days instead of weeks!
We were eager to experiment with it, and so were our buddies at AleSmith. Introducing Blink of an IPA, brewed for our San Diego collaboration festival, Collabapalooza. Simcoe, Citra, Ekuanot, El Dorado, and BRU-1 experimental hops lend flavors of pear, watermelon, and pineapple. Kveik produces stone fruit and citrus esters, making it the perfect strain to use for this bright, juicy IPA. This beer fermented fast and will be gone fast. You might even say it’ll be gone in the blink of… well, you know the saying.
Style: West Coast-Style IPA with Kveik Yeast
Malt: 2-Row Malt, White Wheat
Hops: Simcoe, Citra, Ekuanot, El Dorado, and BRU-1
IBU: 50

I had this beer on-tap in a pint glass at the Karl Strauss location in Anaheim.
Appearance: light golden hue with a little bit of haze and a light effervescence. Head is thin, but leaves a nice white lace.
Smell: dry and a little hoppy with a dash of funk. It's also got a little bit of character that I detect in rice beers - probably a weird side effect of the kveik. Interesting.
Taste: dry and just a little funky with a lightly citrusy hop flavor and quite a lot of bitterness. I think there's a bit too much bitterness for my taste, given how dry it is.
Mouthfeel: medium-light body with a medium carbonation and creaminess.
Overall: I want to like this beer, and totally encourage things like kveik IPA, but I think this misses the mark a bit with its level of bitterness.

Handsome yellow amber brew with plenty of foam in the tulip. This is brewed with Norwegian kveik yeast, for some reason, in a collaboration with AleSmith. Hops are listed as Simcoe, Citra, Ekuanot, El Dorado, and BRU-1 experimental. Some green melon aroma with cucumber.
Hints of lemon and green vegetables in the flavor. Overall it's kind of a funny taste, with pencil shavings competing with the faint fruity hops. Quite bitter finish with an astringent aftertaste. Thin body. From the 16 oz can purchased at Barons Market.
