Dark brown pour with ruby hue.
Smell is a delicious peaty caramel malt, toffee, ever so slightly smoky.
Earthy malty taste - caramel, toffee with a boozy peaty edge with notes of whiskey from the barrel.
Full boozy mouthfeel - sweet earthiness mixed with the whiskey burn which is pleasant and by no means over the top. This is fantastic.

Im always a sucker for a scotch ale/wee heavy, particularly when its barrel-aged. Although Ive never been the biggest Strauss fan it was this beer that intrigued me enough to attend the 31st anniversary party and claim a couple bottles. This a good, solid offering. Its rich and heavy, with a warm boozy finish and a lingering sweetness. Very malt forward and it pours a nice deep reddish brown with very little head. I get the impression that this one will bottle age nicely so Im going to let mine sit for a few months and revisit. Cheers!
