Rich and spicy dark German ale.

Handsome amber, on the dark side. Modest head but good mouthfeel. Roasted malt flavors mellow to a deep caramel. Hops provide excellent counterpoint. Some spice cake, a touch of dates. Warm, inviting flavors with enough bitterness (28 IBU) for the style.

Well balanced in all the right places. Took home a growler, $12. I'm a big fan of Dopplebocks, and this one had more complexity than the standard. I'll look for this in the seasonal lineup. Tasted at Karl Strauss in La Jolla, California.
