Barktoberfest is a malty amber lager traditionally brewed for and enjoyed at Oktoberfest celebrations in Munich, Germany. A blend of imported Munich and Pilsner malt from IREKS in Bavaria goes through a double decoction mashing regimen to produce melanoidin characters of light toffee along with a rich and bready and toasty malt profile. Hallertau Mittlefrüh hops gently balance the malt sweetness, and an extended cold lagering period contributes to a crisp, dry finish that will leave you craving another liter.

Pours a crystal clear golden copper with a fluffy bone white head that provides lacy ringlets around the glass as you enjoy the beer. Beautiful marzen.

The nose features some toffee and bready aromas, and just a smidge of toasty malt as well as some floral hop notes.

The flavor is more pronounced on all counts, with the toffee, wheat bread, and floral hops most prominent, and a bit of roast at the back of the palate. Outstanding.

The mouthfeel is crisp and drying, adding to the drinkability. This is an excellent marzen, IMHO.

On tap it has a strangely addictive and unique roasted malt thing going on. Truly excellent and unique. But beyond that it reminds me of the defects in my buddy’s last home-brew—no head retention, under-carbonated, tepid.

Dark amber body; moderate carbonation; relatively thin yet lasting head, dense and creamy; excellent foam sheeting. Excellent toasted malt aroma; earthy sweetness; subliminal esters in the background. Fine light caramel taste; toasted malt; bread crust; light to moderate hop bitterness. Medium bodied; nice residual sugar feel on the palate; semi-dry.

This is a fine, balanced seasonal lager. It brings a satisfying rustic malt flavor to the palate with a nice light touch of hop bitterness. A fine late Summer / early Fall beer.

16oz undated can poured into a mug at fridge temp 5.3% ABV. The beer pours deep amber in color with light copper highlights and light khaki head. The head recedes to a thin ring, island and ridge of webby lacing. The aroma is mild with notes of semisweet, rich toasted bread and toffee. The taste is rich malt taking on the character of well done, not burnt, whole grain toast with additional very light toffee that never goes actual caramel. Mildly bitter with a touch of earthy hop. The mouthfeel is thin to medium bodied with just less that average carbonation and a dry finish. Cleanly lagered. Overall, outstanding. It's unfortunate that Metazoa chooses not to date their cans, but that is the only thing I can fault on this beer.
