Can was dated late 2022 but I couldn't tell if it was the canning date or best by date.
The pour was promising, stout black with a tall light brown head. Sparse lacing.
The flavor started out, well muddled. It improved a bit as it warmed. Started with dark fruit that was a bit overripe and badly brewed coffee. I generally expect a “sharp” edge with rye, but no dice here.
Never got the rye aspect, and have no idea what kind of barrel it was aged in but I’d guess bourbon, and not for long. It ended up okay with a better brewed coffee flavor and non overripe dark fruits, a touch of chocolate maybe.
The feel was slightly viscous, not BA level, but not bad.
OA, I like the rye bite in beer more often than not, but this one didn’t have it. Thinking this was considerably better when fresh, shame on me for sitting on it so long.

5oz at brewery:
Pours a typical dark, near-if-not Black. Fir the ABV, it has a nice medium collar that even produces some lace.
The rye seem to adds to the bitter roasted aspects of this beer. It’s probably just a tad sweet without the rye bite, especially as it warms.
The barrel and rye combine to produce a nice rye-spiced charred wood nose. A moderately thick base seems thinned by some lighter bourbon, thanks to the flavors the barrel brings. Bittersweet chocolate gets a cherry cordial-esque kick: one that wasn’t too sweet initially, but slowly got a bit sweeter.
Could be a little more dry and the spirit note could be better integrated, but not a bad attempt, and a fairly tasty one.
