"When sculpting furniture, boards must be clamped to a workbench with considerable force. Nothing excels like a bench dog. Quick and efficient. One sharp tap with a mallet to the dog and the board is secured. Another tap and it is released. No tedious tightening and untightening of vices, no time-consuming hold down fixtures to build. So simple, so ingenious.
Bench Dog is a rich and nutty brown ale that reminds me of walnut, my favorite wood. It is full of caramel sweetness, chocolate, coffee, and has a roasted finish. Whether sculpting the finest table or simplest box, Bench Dog is the perfect refreshment while relaxing in the workshop at the end of the day, boots up on the woodstove.”

Translucent brown color; clear. The head is about one-finger thick, but it fades quickly and leaves no lace.
Strong caramel presence with a little hint of alcohol. I pick up on some rust smells, but there is also some bittering hop to provide balance to the aroma.
The caramel is the strongest element, but this beer isn't too sweet. The hop provides good counterbalance. The body is richer than most Brown Ales. I wonder if I was tasting this blindly, if I wouldn't identify this as a Bock, even though it isn't lagered. I don't pick up on any alcohol in the taste. The finish retains the caramel but with a notable bitterness which creates a moderate aftertaste.
