Uncle Bill's American Barley Wine

Clear light brown color. Very good starting head especially for a barley wine. After the thick initial ring of lace, there are some minor streaks and spots.

The smell is off with none of the usual expected aromas. On the positive side, I get orange peel and darker toast. Otherwise, it reminds me of a dirty kitchen sink.

The flavor is a marked improvement. The taste features maltose (malt sugar, like malt balls) and plenty of warming alcohol. Rich body but typical for this style. The same is true with lower carbonation. There's enough hop to give balance and prevent the beer from becoming cloy. The aftertaste reflects this balance.
