Tangy, tantalizing and traditional, the sour ale fetish of Little Fish Brewing Company relies upon the history of the northern German sour and salty style and links it with the classic combination of rhubarb and strawberry for a brand new taste.
Strhubarb Reinheitsgewhathappened throws caution to the purity wind when pouring a golden hue and with a hazy appearance. Above its cottony white froth, a musty fruit aroma floods the nose with the tang of cranberry, rhubarb, apple, strawberry, other red berries, currants and lime. Built upon a light pastry sweetness, the taste of sweetened pie crust joins the flavor fray.
And as the scant sweetness fades further and further into the recesses of taste, the beer's sourness wins out, carrying first the taste of tangy red berry, bing cherry, rose wine, citrus and cider. All trending more dry than sweet, the taste soon transfers to a sharply acidic taste of lactic sourness with a brisk afterpalate of the sea to follow.
Medium bodied for sour but rather suitable for gose, the beer's wheaten aftertaste is joined by the pillowy softness of starch, protien and a creamy substrate of carbonation. Moderate sourness leads to a moderate dryness and a light saltine roundness and a bright orange perfume that plays out underneath the fruit additions. A quick aftertaste of cellar must ensures a rustic counterpart to radiant fruit.
