Gods, Wasps, & Stranglers was inspired by a book of the same name by Mike Shanahan. It's an ode to the majestic family of fig trees, their place in our mythology, their importance as an anchor species in many ecosystems, and their unique symbiotic relationship with tiny pollinating wasps.
"GWS" was aged in a red wine barrel for 22 months and conditioned on 1 lb per gallon of dried Turkish figs for the last 4 months. Besides adding a recognizably figgy flavor, they emphasize the dark, malty complexity of this beer, and add a tobacco-like note.

16.9 ounce bottle, Batch B068, bottled on 7/11/19. Served in a Teku, the beer pours a reddish/brown color with almost an inch light tan head that didn't stick around for too long. Not much lacing at all. I like the aroma, the brew smells like red grapes/wine, oak, caramel, figs and earthiness. Taste is similar to the aroma, but there's the addition of some tart dark fruit, and citrus flavors. Good amount of tartness, and all the flavors seem to be well balanced with each other. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's a bit smooth and easy enough to drink with a moderate amount of carbonation. I thought this was a good sour ale, definitely worth trying!
