Sour blonde ale aged in Gin barrels with Sumac
Botanic Rituals is a study in the contribution of gin barrel character & unique combinations of herbs in mixed-culture beer. Each batch will be highly individual and never exactly repeated.
The first batch was aged in Watershed 4 peel gin (ex bourbon) barrels and French oak wine barrels. It was further infused with lemony sumac berries, foraged from around Athens, and then bottle conditioned.

16.9 ounce bottle, batch #1, bottled 01/24/23. Served in a Little Fish Teku, the beer pours a somewhat clear golden orange color with about an inch off-white head that stuck around a while. There's also a good amount of lacing. I like the aroma, the brew smells like oak, lemon, oranges, and some earthiness. Taste is similar to the aroma, but with the addition of some white grape and juniper flavors. Nice and tart. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's a bit coating and easy to drink with a moderate amount of carbonation. Thought this was an enjoyable brew, worth a try if you like sour ales!
