32oz grunt purchased for $4 (ridiculously cheap Sunday price - outside of Sundays it would probably be about $11) at the brewpub in Spokane.
Poured into a nonic pint glass, this was a slightly chill-hazed coppery amber color, with a half inch or so of beige colored foam that dropped after about 3 or 4 minutes, leaving spotty lace.
Malty, sweet and spicy in the nose. There's a little bit of floral hoppiness, but its pretty dialed back. Only 21 IBUs per the brewery, so not exactly a hop bomb.
The spicy, peppery rye malt flavor leads the charge, but is backed up by a mildly sweet, honeyish malt flavor. The finish is dry, with a mineralish hoppy zap at the swallow.
Medium bodied, with a slightly sluggish mouthfeel. Carbonation could be a little higher, but it's not to the extent of being a crippling flaw.
A nice rye ale that would be good to pair up with one of Bennidito's menu items. It's not remotely a show stopper, but I don't think it's meant to be. Under the right circumstances I'd drink this again, but I wouldn't go to heroic lengths for it.
