seems like a weird time of year for an autumn ipa to be on tap, but it tastes fresh enough to me. ive never been a huge fan of the hoppy beers ive had from these guys, but i liked this one pretty well, definitely a step in the right direction, showing some positive evolution and all. the autumn part just must mean its a little maltier and heartier, a touch sweet, some obvious crystal malt character, but still fairly clean and drinkable. i do always taste a little something in the fermentation profile of their beers, but its not unflattering here, just less perfectly refined than it could be. the hops are nice, fresh, piney, bitter grapefruit notes against the richer malt, lightly lemony to me too, woodsy, definitely an autumnal complexion, which is seems like they were going for, so well done there. this could be a little drier and brighter on the carbonation, but its not a bad ipa, a little old school as it stands with the maltiness, but it fits with what they do in here and is better than their other ipa types i have had. id be curious to try a spring ipa next, hopefully they have one in the works!
