Pours a deep, dark brown coloration with a large, creamy head. Smells of roasted, caramelly malt, some chocolate, coffee and hints of licorice and spice. Taste is a great balance of roasted, caramelly malt and earthy, spicy hops, with some dark chocolate and coffee notes, as well as lighter dark fruit accents, with notes of raisin and fig, and hints of licorice and spice reminiscent of cinnamon and clove. Finishes with a light/medium bitterness and some roasted malt, chocolate, coffee and spice lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
A lovely Stout with a rather dry, roasted and somewhat spicy flavor profile, as well as some light, sweeter accents that balance this out very nicely. I really like the distinct chocolate, coffee and spice notes here, which are complemented by some lighter dark fruits and herbal hops, making for a very well-balanced brew that has got a certain, subtle complexity to it, as well as a good body and mouthfeel. Overall, this makes for a very enjoyable Stout that's quite down-to-earth and well-balanced, with a certain depth of character as well.
