really great beer, unexpectedly good from this little brewery who you never really hear about or see much from. this is just my second beer from them, easily the best of the two, i loved this, part of their csa program, which i think is really cool. it surprisingly has no color to it at all from the beets, usually these are all pink and purple and whatnot, but this one is lightly hazy golden, so sign of the beets at all. the aroma is awesome, earthy and obvious from the beats, with a cool soil type thing going on and some minerals, a little pepper and esters from the yeast, more belgian than funky, really clean and appealing to me, balanced in a neat way with the beats. the flavor is like that too, the beers are readily identifiable in here, raw and earthy as can be. usually i like my yeast a little more rustic in a saison type, but the clean belgian essences of this one are perfect for the beats, it gives the beer an uplifting summery freshness and the flavor of the whole thing together is just amazing. subtle complexities abound, and the beer itself is quite professional, dry and well carbonated, clean and well balanced, just awesome stuff. i could drink this one all day. it really has me pretty stoked to find some time to go up and visit their brewery! best beer surprise in awhile...
