an awesome red ale, impressive quality and depth of flavor overall, and without much of the usual generic malty sweetness that tends to accompany these. maybe a little light on the abv to rightly be called imperial, but that never bothers me, and i think this is as flavorful as any stronger red out there. maybe some rye or red wheat or something on the grain side, it seems like more than just toasted and kilned barley to me, a touch of earthy spice, a strong mineral profile, and an autumnal almost fallen leaves vibe. its fresh as can be, has a little bready yeast thing going on but doesnt really seem english to me, almost more irish, but somewhat unfamiliar i guess, and just enough hops at the end for this to be balanced, but really, its all about the grain, and rightly so in this style. fast finishing for the style too, its off dry but nothing really hangs around, and this seems like a neat expression of agriculture in a pretty approachable brew overall. i was really impressed with this place from top to bottom, get them in your radar if they arent already. one of the best red ales ive had in a long time!
