Neat place, you do the tour then get samples at the end. The nature itself is worth stopping for; the samples at the end are predetermined and may not be the seasonal selections currently offered. Still worth the trip.

A historic, clean, organized and friendly brewery tucked into a hillside on the Cottonwood River in New Ulm. August Schell house and rose gardens are beautiful in the summer along with the peacocks roaming the property. The brewery survived the burning of New Ulm by Native Americans because the Schell family were at the time on good terms with the tribe. Schell's has some older equipment they use that has loads of history. Mr. Marti was our tour guide. When you tour the brewery one gets a small peek & walk thru of the brewing operations so the tour concentrates on their museum, rathskeller and gift shop, which is pretty cool. They've expanded their beer profile and have many lovely and highly rated aged and cave-aged beers. New Ulm has rich American history and the town has pride. Schell's seasonal and year-round beers can usually be had very fresh at the B & L Bar on German St. I personally hope some day they bring back their classic Schell Pils.

Cool old brewery, worth visiting. The tour is much less of a tour than it was 7 or 8 years ago, but still a good time for $5.00. A. Schell's should work on making quality craft beers instead of trying to compete with AB and the like.
