this is a great porter, truly robust, just a fantastic beer. super dark in color, quite thick, and sporting a fluffy creamy mocha colored head, really pretty beer in the glass. the aroma is great too, heavy char and coffee and dark chocolate, lots going on here, and heavily leaning towards the dark end of the grain spectrum. lots and lots of chocolate here, a really dark roast to the malt, bitter from that, earthy too, even a little smoke going on late, less of the ale yeast than some of these have, and less of the sweet richer malt middle, although there is still some of that happening here, it really is more a complex dark side brew, with a ton of body and a long palate coating finish and texture that hang on for a real long time after the swallow. smooth but super potently flavored, interesting and different from the small brewery generic american porter. these guys are making some really distinctive beers and they all seem to be awesome. this one is certainly a memorable standout from its peers. great brew for the fall season.

This was an outstanding porter, probably my favorite of all the beers I sampled here. It's a bit higher alcohol than most, but the chocolate gave it a great feel and it was very smooth, just like a porter should be. Nicely balanced, not overly sweet or boozy, just really good. Fine work.
