Served on draft at Cerebral
Appearance: an off yellow color – not quite beige. Totally opaque. It looks like grapefruit juice combined with milk. The head is 2-fingers of white bubbles that fades quickly to nothing. No head retention.
Aroma: juicy hop aroma but somewhat light – that is, not as concentrated in aroma as many other examples within the style.
Flavor: obviously New England in style. Hoppy and juicy but with no distinct tropical juice flavors. There is an off flavor or overly grainy flavor that compromises what this beer could be otherwise. This beer is not among the better New England-style IPA options readily commercially available.
Mouthfeel: heav(ier)-medium. A crowler would serve as a light meal. The body should be a bit lighter given the style.
Overall: good but not great, but certainly worth trying. Cerebral is on the right track with this beer, but comes up short from producing a whale. Cerebral does produce IPAs better than many of the other local breweries pumping out quasi-swill to meet the NE-IPA fad.
