a really intense ipa here, done in collaboration with outer range, the cool kids in colorado right now, especially when it comes to ipa types. glad these guys got together. the beer is pretty intense, and features some numbered hops that i am unfamiliar with. i wish the beer was a little more subtle so i could taste and appreciate them a bit more. this one is golden and clear and orangey and bronze in color, shiny and heady, looks nice from the can, and smells super fruity to me, orange and grapefruit, but over the top when i taste it, like so absurdly bitter and also sweet at the same time, this doesnt need to be anywhere near as strong as it is, i reckon this would be better at 8% abv or something, its sweet and even a little metallic and boozy at this strength. the hops are huge, fresh, and very bitter on top of the obviously citrusy layer running through this. some green vegetal elements, flavorful for sure too, but this is a can to share, it felt like a lot for me even half the can. i like it being clear though, i didnt expect that from these two breweries, but the beer is more of a novelty, too huge to be real drinkable and sort of belgian from a yeast front, winey and estery, not at all flavorless. interesting beer, but my least favorite i think of the recent run of beers i have had from outer range. the hoppy stuff from cerebral has never been what i thought they did best either. this is well refined and brewed and all, but the recipe is a little over the top with all the alcohol, yeast character, and assertive bitterness. some will love this, this commentary is merely personal preference in this style.
