fresh hop pils, way cool, not quite czech of course, more west coast style, not heavy on bitterness, i think its time to reexamine the category options here on BA, as things have changed a lot in recent years, especially in the lager space, but this is lovely stuff, delicate but bold at the same time, refreshing and drinkable but real hoppy, uncommon profile to this but also cleanly lagered, very enjoyable. saaz and cascade in here apparently, i think only the cascade is unkilned but i do not know for sure, neat in a pils base like this, more complimentary than it sounds on paper. beautifully refined too, this is golden and light and bright and perfectly clear, an average height but lasting airy white head hangs out on top, and the carbonation is killer, really picks this up, a lot of pace to it. it still smells somewhat european to me, through the fresh and slightly spicy hops i get a bready pils malt core and a non neutral lager yeast, which gives this some real authenticity, all very fresh. the hops bring light citrus, grassiness, and to me spiciness to the mix, lemon and lemongrass, green lawn, white peppercorn, and maybe a hint of a gin botanical thing, real good, and the grain is substantial enough that this seems balanced the whole time. the flavor is similar, some mid palate bitterness actually but less of that later. some resinous almost ipa character on the palate too, but its not overdone. the lagering is crisp and excellent and even with all the hops this keeps its identity effectively as a pils. the freshness is wonderful, the hops are oily and alive, and i could drink this all night long. great beer, cool style for wet hops too, well done!
