Only my third oral encounter with Cerebral, this one tangled up with another excellent brewery in Mikerphone. All collected into a 500ML bottle.
Little noise upon the cap removal, & no evident bubbles or hissing from the dark surface. Smells like a rye burial cask - awesome. A little sharpness & a lot of sweetness. I expect both to pound me in the palate.
Reverse Engineering is a sweet, decadent pastry stout in the best possible manner. No teeth-rotting for the sake of sugar. Alcohol is front-and-center, promising a steady stream of curses at the alarm tomorrow morning. Rich hazelnut & cocoa & malt combine for a legendary shock of honey on the tongue. Rye barrels cruise in mid-palate to great effect - spicy, bourbony, & adding to the impression of alcoholic sleep to come. Full & thick. The container. It isn't big enough.
Collaborations are generally a pox on the bright face of real beer. This one is the exception, bringing out excellence in both of these fine breweries. An amazing beer.
