Glad to see that Swift Current is now canning this product - my first experience with a beer from this brewery. I'm a big fan of spicy Rye Ales and this 16 oz. can was consumed rather quickly as it easily met my expectations as to both smell and taste. Fortunately, I gambled and acquired a 4-pack so I'm now looking forward to 3 more hopefully enjoyable cans in the near future.

Very nutty IPA but smooth as a babies bottom.

Poured into a 13 oz tulip glass not sure when it was bottled. Pours a murky dark reddish orange with a half inch white head that leaves plenty of lace.

Smell spicy rye, caramel, apricot, pine, and hints of grapefruit.

Mouthfeel is lighter than medium, very little carbonation, not at all dry, and drinkability is fine.

Overall this o.k, they need to work on this one. Not enough life, my bottle says 6.5. Just o.k at best for me.

Poured from a 22 oz bomber into a stout glass.

The pour is slightly hazy with very minimal head. The color is a deep orangish-amber with some mild sediment floating around the glass. Not a good looking beer to my eyes.

The smell is pure rye bread with hints of citrus and and sweet malt.

The taste follows the nose, kicking off with some sweet citrus and toffee, with the spicy rye flavor coming in full force on the back end. This is unfortunate as it overpowers the initial citrus and toffee flavors which I found to be somewhat pleasant. I even get a mild chalky after-taste which is fairly off-putting.

The feel is medium-bodied with medium carbonation. The alcohol is well-hidden but the rye sticks to the tongue for far longer than it should.

Overall, I was not impressed with this beer. It is not pleasant to look at, and the hop flavor is completely overshadowed by the spiciness of the rye. I am well aware that this is meant to be a Rye IPA, however the balance is just not there.

From the 650 ml. bottle. Sampled on August 19, 2015.

Medium amber, heady pour with sediment chunks floating around.

The aroma is at once sweet with caramel and toffee and then the rye grains kick in and then it all goes spicy.

Medium body.

The taste, like the aroma, begins quite sweet with a the roasted rye grains playing up as well. The bitterness is quite forward and dry.

Bottle from Bert's
slightly hazy deep amber color with a decent sized off white head. Caramel and toffee maltiness is quite strong making this a bit on the sweet side. The hop profile is overwhelmed by the spiciness from the rye malt. What is in here is somewhat grassy and astringent. A bit of sherry like oxidation is in here as well. This one needs some work.
