16 oz draft pour is hazy amber and floats a 1/2in fluffy cream colored head.
Citrus tartness in the aroma, from simcoe and mosaic hops, and a Norwegian yeast, with a subtle funkiness the brewer tells me is from a German malt, is a nice combination. Grapefruit and orange peel aromas.
Taste is more amber consistent, bready and a hint of toasted malt, but also the citrus rind flavor and a slight cardamum spice touch.
Medium, rounded, feel and a dry finish.
Overall The Elementalist is not your typical sweet malty amber. Fresh, different, and delicious. I would prefer it to be clearer, but the flavor wins out.
