i missed the second installment of this series, but didnt like this any better than the first one, and it seems equally amateur to me, much as i like the taste. i like it being quite a bit less sour than the first one, but this is lacking life, near flat from the tap (maybe some bottle conditioning would help), shiny pale brassy orange color, truly almost still in appearance and texture. lots of wine in the nose, some funk starting to be overtaken by a bacterial acidity, but there is good interplay between the two. some orange peel and kiwi fruit notes to me in the aroma, more of a lemon and green grape in the taste, some hay and straw from the grain and brett, somewhat more malty than a lot of these, less wheat more barley it seems, tons of minerals too, earthy without being heavy as it drink it. slight varnish thing going on, lots of oak, tannic and sharper and sharper as it warms, some apricot and peach, white wine, and some mature threads in the blend obvious. i like this, but its not polished, and after a couple of years since the first anniversary beer, i kind of hoped it would be. maybe some age will do this well, but the flat feel is unflattering. still, im into these guys right now and am thrilled to be seeing some of their beer showing up in idaho!
