Poured from 16oz can obtained at the brewery into a dimpled mug. Canned 7/20/22 -- OK, perhaps not the freshest, but I think for a brown ale that's just fine.
Appearance: rich, deep amber-brown hue with perhaps a little bit of haze and a thick finger of pillowy tan foam. Looks pretty!
Smell: bready, nutty, biscuity, and a little on the dry side; this definitely seems like that zone where amber becomes brown. Not bad, though.
Taste: sweeter than the aroma made me imagine. Plenty of caramel and malty flavor here; it's perhaps even too sweet for my taste, and much more of an amber ale or altbier kind of flavor.
Mouthfeel: medium body with a decent carbonation and creaminess.
Overall: to me, this is much more in the amber or altbier family than a brown ale, largely due to its sweetness. It's decent, but not really what it says on the tin.
