DATE: May 8, 2020... OCCASION: the last cold, wet, snowy (?!) night of the spring deserves a hearty beer... GLASSWARE: Duvel oversized tulip... its brown, clumpy head sizzles into retreat, becoming a crackling roil of bubbles approximating soda... wish the head lasted longer, but that may be the glass... its body is velvet-brown, active and dark... earthy maltiness--roasted oats, toasted bread--with herbs and floral botanicals, light with citric hints, licorice, syrup, and orange slices... this is an easy beer to inhale, contemplate and let linger... but the drinking must ensue, and it does so with a nice weight at 7%, causing pause between sips with a coating, viscous finish and a reasonable existence at the teeth... its mid-sip is warm, textured but easily drinkable--in other words, it finds nice middle ground, like a winter warmer... its flavor profile delivers on its aroma's promise, with honey and sweet licorice, roasted malts, orange peel and lemon zest, light syrup, and some rum-like overtones... this is a solid offering: at the right weight and flavor balance, it warms, relaxes, invigorates and pulls in for another sip... cheers to Man Skirt for another worthwhile offering...
