Our take on a traditional German Märzen, or Oktoberfest lager. Lots of Munich and Pilsner malts make a solid backdrop for the German hops used here. A long, cold lagering process makes this beer clean and crisp.

On draft at the brewery. Served in a Willi Becher glass. It pours an almost clear, amber-cola color with virtually no head or lacing, which was disappointing. A very creditable Märzen nose featuring caramel, nutty brown bread, and earthy notes. The taste redeemed the appearance. It opens with a burst of caramel but segues nicely to dark brown bread, burnt nuts, earthiness, and spices at the finish. There are also some slight cola notes. The tastes are well-balanced. It's moderately carbonated with a pleasant feel, and has good substance with an ABV of 6%. Overall, it's a solid Märzen but certainly not a leader of the style. I suspect that if poured from a can there would be a better head and lacing. I would definitely drink it again.

DATE: October 28, 2017... OCCASION: undefeated PSU/OSU (#2 vs. #6)--here we go... GLASSWARE: Paulaner half-liter dimpled mug... pours from a day-old growler an effervescent, three-finger froth that simmers to a pencil-thin line... thick biscuit malts suggest sweetness, while damp hay and horse blanket make for a more subdued promise... worthy noting that noble hops are detectable... the first sip is smooth, soft, and fixed at the teeth with a sweet buzz... a heavy lager finish sits in the throat... sweet caramel is soft but enjoyable...bread malts have a lightly toasted appeal... tea leaf and mild pine hop round out the profile to be drinkable at 6.0%... agreeable, flavorfully toastedl, and varied enough in its texture to be considered more than a fall rinser...
