DATE: December 14, 2018... OCCASION: celebrating the week and beginning the weekend with a strong local offering... GLASSWARE: Duvel snifter... the pour is from an hours-old grunt, a noble amber brown, translucent body that sports quarter-finger white head... sporadic bubbles center the glass... equally subtle citrus and resin, which seems understated for a beer with this weight in alcohol--a little bit of phenol... the resin and floral aromas are soft, and introduces harder fruits like apple and pear, with a malt bill that has caramel and toffee... this sips with savor, a thick, slightly syrupy mouthfeel that smooths into a memorable, lingering finish... the flavor profile is highly resinous, fruity, and big--an IPA that has no East or West bias, but lies comfortably in a balance that makes for a bigger, bolder experience... a bit sweet, a bit of burn, and an overall pleasant, understated drink... indeed medium IBUs for an IPA--keeps it smooth and without an issue...
