Brewed to commemorate the London Beer Flood of 1814, when a great wave of beer from a broken vat claimed the lives of eight Londoners, this ale is made with heaps of English brown malt, showing complex bready, nutty, mildly toasty notes. The perfect pint to raise in honor of our fallen brothers and sisters in beer.

DATE: January 23, 2026... OCCASION: licking wounds after a winless Morris Knolls/Chatham/Mendham basketball week... GLASSWARE: nondescript nonick... pours a dark mahogany brown body with the faintest ominous light breaking at its base... its head is a foaming, fizzing finger's worth of tinted almond, holding to a thin but accountable topping... I love its apparent simplicity.... and then, wow--chalk-full of toasted oats, rye bread, almonds, cashews, hazelnuts, hints of mocha, confectioner's sugar, and hay... it's a big impact for a beer under 5% ABV... its mouthfeel is predictably thin, yet it entices with some tingle at the teeth, a reasonable weight on the tongue, and some coating at the throat... built for a long hall at a good bar, this easy-drinker presents itself as the perfect compliment to pub fare, cigar smoke, and raucous background din... the toasted malts are appreciably sweet, competing with roast chestnuts and hazelnuts for attention... the oats make for a grainy drag, and hints of chocolate, tobacco, and leather again make this experience bigger than expected.... I could see this pairing with any number of salty, sweet, doughy foods, as well as counterbalancing spicier fare... this is a solid version of the style, and one I look forward to having again...
