DATE: April 11, 2019... OCCASION: easing into the weekend with another doppelbock--this one, a local... GLASSWARE: Man Skirt willibecker.... pours a dark chestnut body that us almost opaque, and a head of off-white foam that proudly remains at half-finger strength... first drag of aroma is rich in toasted malts, light caramel, hints of chocolate and a suggestion of nuttiness--in other words, this 9% ABV is attempting to sneak up on me... the first sip continues that warning, with a warming introduction that remains long after it's finished... coating and slightly medicinal in its weight, filling and flirtatious as its name suggests--could easily clam this first glass from the hours-old growler without a second thought... this breaths with wood pulp, nuttiness, thick toasted bread malts, subtle sweet chocolate, and some rugged vegetable flavoring.... another Man Skirt victory in style--although this doesn't hit the complexity of, say, Carton's Balinator, but this is a great American attempt at the German creation...
