DATE: January 1, 2023... OCCASION: celebrating the first day of the new year with A (not THE) champagnes of beer... GLASSWARE: nonick from a day-old growler.... this pours a golden, translucent body with lazy, sporadic bubbles.... its head is an clean-white single-fingered head that simmers to a quarter-inch of consistent foam... its aroma has honey, black cherries, muted floral accents--St. Germaine is evoked here--with hard fruits also in the profile... the hops are fruity with little bitterness.... its mouthfeel strikes "brut"ally, as its name portends--a bubbly, dry, white sparkling wine effect that uplifts as a champagne might... the malts make its finish a bit less bright--it is a beer, after all--and leaves a stronger, more memorable impression than its vinous inspiration does... a novelty to an extent, it flirts with a pilsnerish effect, and at 6%, it is highly drinkable... lemon zest, tea leaf, metallic ping, and lilac... a great introduction to the style, and a refreshing experience at that...
