A: Pours an opaque yet still clear extremely dark brown (approaching black) in color with moderate amounts of fine active visible carbonation rising along the edges of the glass and moderate dark cola brown + garnet red colored highlights. The beer has a two finger tall sudsy foamy dark tan head that reduces to a large patch of thin film covering the entire surface of the beer and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate to significant amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Moderate aromas of citrus/grapefruit zest, citrus/grapefruit pith, herbal, and pine/resin hops over the top of light to moderate aromas of roasted malts + slightly charred malts.
T: Upfront there are just shy of moderate flavors of roasted + slightly charred malts with a light flavor of coffee + dark chocolate. That is followed by slightly stronger than moderate flavors of citrus/grapefruit zest, citrus/grapefruit pith, herbal, spicy, earthy, and pine/resin hops which impart a just shy of moderate amount of bitterness which fades away very slowly.
M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Initially slightly creamy with a light to moderate amount of dryness in the finish.
O: For a style (Black IPA) that can be quite hit and miss for me, I took a chance on this beer as I have enjoyed everything else I have tried from this brewery and I was not disappointed. Easy to drink with well hidden alcohol and a really nice example of the style blending the aromas/flavors of the roasted malts with the citrus/pine hops. Very enjoyable.

Pours black with a tall frothy mocha head. Aromas of pine, herbs, very light citrus, a whiff of smoke, and toasty malts. Nice balance of hops and roasted malt without letting the char overwhelm. Excellent choice of hops - I love a good spicy, piney, resinous quality when mixing with dark malts. Grapefruit zest, leafy green hop oils, and spruce blend with coffee and cocoa. Creamy medium body dries out in the finish. This is a quality example of the style.
