A: Pours an opaque yet still clear very thick viscous jet black in color with light to moderate amounts of fine active visible carbonation rising quickly along the edges of the glass and very faint dark cola brown + dark chestnut brown + very dark amber colored highlights. The beer has a four finger tall dense sudsy foamy dark mocha in color which very slowly reduces to a large patch of thick film covering a little more than 80% of the surface of the beer surrounded by a large patch of slightly mottled very thin film covering the remainder of the surface of the beer and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate to significant amounts of lacing are observed.
S: Moderate to strong aromas of roasted + dark + slightly charred + toasted + caramel malts with a minimal amount of caramel sweetness. Just shy of moderate aromas of pine + earthy hops.
T: Upfront there are strong flavors of roasted + dark + slightly charred + toasted + caramel malts with a minimal amount of caramel sweetness. That is followed by moderate flavors of pine + earthy hops. There are moderate to strong amounts of lingering roasty + hoppy bitterness.
M: Full bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth, almost creamy with a hint of dryness in the finish.
O: Drinks pretty easily considering this is a big “old school” hoppy stout with a full thick smooth almost creamy mouthfeel. Enjoyable with lots of roastiness some char and moderate happiness.
