Opaque ruby brown with a billowing tan head and thick lace. Aromas of smoky earth, german yeast, cocoa and malt. Taste does the layers of the altbier well: front loaded malt, earth, smoke, with then a second layer of cocoa and rustic hardy bread, finished by a final layer of elevated german yeast and light grassy/earthy hops that lend a kiss of bitterness on the finish. Feel elevates through the sip, rising with the yeast character, medium-light bodied for the style, can detect new world ingredients but textured in the old world style enough to flow. Really enjoyed this on a rainy fall evening
