This one is clear gold (SRM 3-4) with a 1” white foam on top. The head slowly settles then holds 1/4”. Random tiny carbonation bubbles jostle about seeking the air above. Meanwhile, a fine curtain is being cast upon the walls of a hand blown pilzner glass.
Crisp malt mixes with spicy hops with a light floral accent. Water crackers and pepper are also apparent. While simple, the aroma profile is exquisite.
The flavors take their cue from the aroma, although with more bitterness than expected. The gain is prominently displayed with faint corn loitering in the background. It is quite dry, which works with the crispness. The finish is long and mild, primarily crackers and light pepper. Bitterness rises in the finish as it warms, and rye bread starts to show.
Fizzy carbonation gives way to a medium body with the texture of nylon. Both the alcohol and astringency are higher than expected, though certainly acceptable.
This is a pleasant and relaxing, drinking beer. It is probably well suited to pair with nachos, or even poppers. I enjoyed it (three weeks after canning) while reading outside on the 4th of July.
