Hits those auburn dark orange and light brown color notes, with a 3/4" off white head. Aroma dropped tons of spice rack, clove and banana.

Taste kept hitting with waves of clove. Heavy dark bread breadiness. Dark biere de garde almost. Toffee. A difficult to drink low abv beer that is within style guidelines.

This used to be one of the highest rated beers in America 20 years ago.

Light brown, slight dark orange appearance to the beer, points for being different I guess. Frothy head. Aroma was massive clove and banana bread.

Taste, more clove. Wheat base is evident. Very much a sandwich in a bottle style of beer, just so heavy on the breadiness. Probably authentic for its style. I tend to like more Americanized dunkels, with hops or spicy, which this seems to have very little of either. A toffee and nuts flavor approaches as the beer warms. For being so low in alcohol relatively speaking, it sure took me some time to finish this one off.

From my notes, I couldn't figure out why the heck Michael Jackson thought this beer was so awesome?

12oz bottle with a bottle date of 1/12/05 - good thing I got it 20% off as today is 3/4/06. pours a cloudy deep amber with a huge creamy head, good longevity and very good lace. Typical hefe smells of banana and clove etc., but a bit musky and earthy. Very slight roasted smells. Again good hefe flavors with a bit of musky roastyness - not a ton but enough to just notice. A heavier hefe, a winter hefe if you will. A good brew.

Presentation: 12 oz longneck with the bottled date clearly visible on the front of the label.

Appearance: Pours clear with a large head for the first 2/3, then I swirled in the sediment and this added quite a bit of haze. Head is good sized, but fades quickly.

Smell: Lots of yeast profile in the aroma - the wheat comes through strongly too.

Taste: The yeast flavor definitely dominates - lots of clove flavors. The wheat and grain flavors are clean.

Overall impression: A nice dunkel - accompanies spicy food very well.

Pours a beautiful deep amber, with a thick tan head that retains well...a nice looking dunkel to say the least. Aroma is biscuity malt, with a fruity, banana-y, clove like yeast scent. Taste begins with a biscuity malt flavor followed by a banana flavor with hints of corriander, and plums. Mouth feel is crisp and refreshing with moderate carbonation. Drinkability is quite good and i could definately have a few more.

12 oz. bottle from a mixed six pack ($8/sixer), with a bottled date of June 25, 2004. Poured into a pilsner glass following the instructions on the bottle: pour 2/3 into glass, then swirl bottle to mix in yeast, then pour the rest.

Appearance: A nice amber/orange color, with the cloudiness you'd expect from a wheat beer. Good white head that eventually goes down to about two millimeters thick, but never disappears. Looks great.

Smell: Caramel and banana bread.

Taste: Great balance to this one... banana up front with a malty aftertaste that lingers just long enough. Tasty!

Mouthfeel: Nice and creamy. Dries your mouth a bit at the finish, making you want another sip.

Drinkability: I could definitely drink multiple glasses of this beer, but the carbonation is just a bit high for my tastes. I believe that's expected in this style.

Notes: I really like this beer! I'm new to this style, so can't say how it compares, but I will definitely come back for more of this in the future.

12oz bottle obtained via trade with CRJMellor. Thanks for the opportunity... Bottled on 2/14/04.

Poured into an imperial pint glass, formed a 1" beige head over the slightly murky dark amber brew. Head fades pretty quickly down to about 1/4", and lacing is minimal to average. Aroma is lightly of fruits and wheat. Taste is dominated by a tart fruitiness, and little wheat character is tasted. Mouthfeel is reasonable for the style, and drinkability is nice and thirst-quenching. Not a bad brew, but I'm guessing it has lost a bit over time. Have to revisit in the future.

Huge froth collapses into a beer meringue sculpture. Lovely reddish brown the color of a translucent Jersey cow. I love wheats, I should try some good German representations. This one smells like homemade wine, and wet slate. Taste: Lemon, banana, mint, fresh whole wheat bread, basement must and barn dust. Sticky, pumpkin bread. I love it!

Presentation: 12 oz brown bottle with a bottled on date on the side of the label.

Appearance: Hazed amber-brown with two fingers of solid head.

Smell: Mild clove with a light fermented wheat tartness. Faintly bready.

Taste & Mouth Feel: Quite smooth and crisp with a medium body. Earthy palate with an almost woody flavor from a dusty husk character. Vague hops are over run by the flash of spiciness. Long lingering yet mild tartness from yeast shows a touch of nuttiness.

Drinkability & Notes: Not half bad for a domestically brewed Dunkel Weiss. ItÂ’s awesome to see a brewery tackle this style. Went well with some beer braised hot Italian sausage and peppers.

This one pours a brown color with a really tall head and leaves some lacing on the glass. The aroma is sweet and malty - caramel malts, mostly. The flavor is sweet and malty with hints of fruit and a little hops for balance. Finish is a little dry, but with some fruitiness. This is a good beer and I'll have it again if I can find it.

12oz. bottle poured into a pint glass. It pours a deep copper color with three fingers of towering head. There is a good amount of lacing. The smell is malty and sweet, a light caramel aroma, and a hint of alcohol (don't know where that's coming from). The taste is malty and has just a little bit of sweet fruit like grape. A little dry on the finish. The mouthfeel is nice, and so is the drinkability. Not too shabby.

The beer is a hazy brown color. The nose is caramel with a bit of the banana creamyness. The caramel malt comes through in the flavor as well. Not as much of the creamy banana. Its still a good beer. The banana creamyness is more in the finish. Its moderate in my mouth. I could see sitting down to more than one of these. I will like to see

A light reddish-brwon with a good, thick 1 1/2" head that lingers.
Smells is not very strong, sweet and malty.
Taste is better, malty, light hops, sweet, fruity with alcohol making a mild appearance late.
A nice medium-bodied brew with a light effervescence, very smooth, very drinkable. A lot like a good brown ale but with a nice fruity aspect to it.

Pours a hazy light brown with a nice tan head. Good lace surronds the glass.

There is a strong aroma of bananas and spice in the nose.

A nice fruity taste is evident in the mouth that is balanced by an assertive clove finish. Very nice.

Thin in the mouth with a crisp dry finish.

This is a nice offering from Tabernash that I would likely try again.

This, I feel, is a very likeable beer. It's not too strong in the alcohol area, so that is a good thing, considering the taste could be ruined by that. Instead it's very smooth and creamy. It has a slight fruit "bite" to it, that is mostly the taste of darker, richer fruits, mixed with some citrus. The color was a very murky brownish amber with a nice thick head. The head lasted a little while, then disappated into a thin laceing. The smell was good, in that it reminded me of a brewery. All in all a good beer that will see my frigde more often.

Cloudy dark brown color. Large head that laced up well.

Some subtle chocolate, coffee in the aroma with lots of banana and cloves.

Not very good.

Banana and clove shine shine with yeast and other dark grains.

Have compared to home brewed Dunkel Weiss beers that I thought were better.

Not very good.

Poured into an Aventinus glass for optimum effect, and did it work! Color is a dark auburn hue, with the sides and foot cast in a roasted reddish shade, and the head is huge, thick, fluffy and colored light tannish.
Aroma: rather mild, creamy, soft, with notes of nuts and spice, and hints of fruit.
Taste: light on the tongue, but very flavorful and well-equipped with that certain weizen texture I enjoy, solid and tasty. Lightly fruity, with some citrus, but plenty of grapes, plum, etc. Very warm and playful in the mouth, with a soft, fruity, and eventually drying finish.
Smooth and appealing, this was a very fine little dunkel. Good job, Tabernash, and thanks to vitriola for sending it out!

15 seconds later, the noisy, bubbly, coarse, tan, soda pop head is gone. Try again. The second pour gives a slightly denser head. Below it, the copper/red beer is pretty nice looking. There is lots of carbonation. Sticking my face in the glass, I smell sugar, malt, tanginess, a little fish and some milk gone bad. A fruity, tangy front on this beer and a tangy, fruity middle that's thinnish, with subtle chocolate. It finishes dry yet zingy, with alcohol and ink.

It isn't bad. There are flavors. Fruity, malty, tangy and even a little rummy. Interesting, but only.

Hmmm? Curious Dunkel. I must say, the first few sips had me a bit puzzled. Pours a decent burnt sienna, slightly hazed with the yeast pour. Larger and stickier than normal Weissbeer head. Mild fruit nose of banana and pineapple, some spice, a hint of rubber. Flavor is thin, hop dominated with a smoky roast barley astringency in the finish. It grew on me some but certainly not the finest example I've tasted. Wouldn't turn one down now, of course, but on a shelf next to the Weihenstephaner, no contest.
