a weird beer, sweet for a berliner, but not bad. i havent had much sour stuff from these guys, so this was a bit of a surprise. the name of the beer had me hoping for something a little more exciting though, donuts in it or something, but alas thats not really the case. this has a slightly baked aroma, more than just pale and raw wheat i would guess, a crystal malt sort of sweetness, i get some vanilla in the nose too, although i am unsure about additives of any kind in this beer. the flavor is weird because the traditional berliner sourness is definitely there, pretty clean, one dimensional sure, but i dont need a ton of complexity from lacto in a beer like this, and they have done that part well enough. the weird thing though is the sweetness thats there, lactose or something maybe, i have not really known this element in a berliner before, outside of some esoteric grimm dessert berliners, its odd but its appealing, and i cant really set my glass down. i dont love the beer, but i appreciate it as something unique. i could see this being a fine base for things like peaches or figs if they decide to make a series out of it. good to see left hand coming out with some new stuff after what has felt like a long time without much innovation...
