Pours a near black color with a 2F tan head and moderate lacing.
Smells and tastes of toasted malt, coffee, chocolate, lactose and coconut with a cinnamony spicy finish.
Medium heavy body with light carbonation. Lush, syrupy and smooth mouthfeel.
This is a nice sweet but not cloy brew. I agree with the previous reviewer that this is better when closer to room temperature

This beer excited me before trying because of the added ingredient of coconut that can often be detected in stout and porter beers but with much less intensity to this beer. The appearance is dark brown and opaque. There was a minor head to the bear. Aroma gives you definite coconut notes that are mildly sharp. The malt hints of bread aromas and the hops give an earthy dank leafy fragrance. Yeast gives off a slight funky odor. The flavor is balanced between bitter and sweet. The flavor intensity is moderately strong with sweet, toasty, chocolate and coffee malt flavors. Again, coconut is the underlying flavor that definitely feels added on as opposed to a natural flavor of the stout. Upon warming, the flavor of a Mounds bar becomes more prominent. To the mouth, there is a medium feel that is creamy and mouth coating. The finish is moderately long and strong with a balanced finish. Personally, the coconut doesn’t overpower and enhances the chocolate and coffee notes in the stout. The beer is much more enjoyable served warmer than refrigerator cold. I believe this beer deserves more than than 1 try and I plan on drinking a second one within a week slightly warmer and with the expectation of coconut and chocolate.
