Had The Geologist poured from 12-oz. can, bottom stamped (likely) canned on "03/13/25," into tulip pint.
Pours amber-gold with clarity and 1- to 2-finger very light tan head, with excellent retention, pulling chunky rings of lace down the glass. Sweet citrus aroma off pour, then some mild florals, and bitter herbals, soon joined by mild hop spice and tart stone fruit aromas, and finally a little caramel aroma as warms. On tasting, begins moderately, herbally bitter, then lots of sweet citrus, over a creamy, mild caramel malt body, which carries into a big, bitter, grapefruit finish.
The brewery calls this an old school West Coast IPA, which I take to mean a beer like the Pales and IPAs that used to be Sierra Nevada's thing. And a good thing, too.
