This pilsner is to celebrate my families [sic] and brewery's new addition. Lola is a young dog and we thought a session pilsner would reflect her youth the best. Lola was rescued from SOS Beagle.

This next horizontal as part of the eradication of The Bottle Backlog here at Chez Woody is going to be fun, if nothing else. I first met co-owner & brewer Greg Schertzer at the Annual Capital City Invitational Beer Festival, held at Appalachian B.C. in Harrisburg several years ago & continuing. He seemed to be a passionate sort, but I wondered as to his sustainability. I no longer doubt in his longevity & he even came to The FGBS recently for a tasting of his wares. Howling Henry is his beagle, who sits in on every brew day & howls. Ha!

I Pop!ped the cap & performed a VERY gentle pour as this one is a lager. An in-glass swirl raised a brief two fingers of foamy, rocky, eggshell-white head with moderate retention. Color was an oh-so-slightly-hazy Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 -5). Nose had a pronounced malty sweetness, which to me, bespeaks German-style Pilsner. The brewer calls it a "session lager", so I did not know whether to build it as an unknown, untasted Pilsner or simply as a Light Lager. It can always be changed/updated as necessary. Mouthfeel was kind of thin & watery, but in the style, that is not terrible. The taste was rather light, slightly malty with an underlying Noble hops grassiness. If anything else, it might be a GER Pils, but it is going to fare better as a Light Lager. Finish was semi-dry, definitely a clean lager, but given its designation as "Session", it should be thought of as such first & a Pilsner second, IMHO. Time will tell.
