my first beer from these guys, how new are they? first i have ever heard of them even. this is their porter, and its not bad, but its not a real head turner either. a little thin in body, not enough carbonation, and with some flavors that i kind of dig, but are not commonly considered normal for the style. i definitely taste a little red wine fruitiness to this, dried cherries and raisins, and even a sort of tannic property, possibly from the use of the dark grain at too warm a mash temperature. i do not dislike it though, i think the flavor is richer and more dynamic than many, i like the layers, it makes me think, but it doesnt have enough body to support the complexity, and i really miss it in this beer. it seems a little amateurish overall, but it is a little something different so there is a give and take here. id like to get up to the brewery sometime this summer and taste through the rest of their lineup. an average beer can be forgiven for a newer operation, this shows some promise for sure...
