Uproar Brewing Co.

 

Our group of 4 stopped here to try the beers and to have dinner. This is a storefront setting among other retain businesses on a busy downtown street with curb parking. The interior is a large open space with visible roof trusses and unfinished brick perimeter walls. The bar is set in the middle of the place and has maybe 15 seats, and the brewing equipment is visible to the rear of the pub. Long tables/chairs are mostly to the front. I like this kind of vibe. Service involves ordering food and beer at the bar, and we received prompt attention and delivery of our food to our table.

There were 14 beers on tap with a very good variety of styles, plus a cider. We ordered two sampler flights of 4 beers to try to experience a variety. Two of our group ordered a pint each, so we tried 10 of the 14 beers. All of them was brewed to style, and most exceeded its respective style characteristics so that we gave a B-minus score overall. The notable beers were the Monarch French Saison and the Golden Stave BA blended sour golden ale. The latter beer was a bit heavy on the oak character, but I liked it anyway. The Touch of Zin rustic saison was a little bit tart (probably the reason for the use of 'rustic' in the name), and the character from the Zinfandel barrel was very nice.

The food that we ordered was very good and it scored slightly better than the beers. I noted a crowler machine for beers to-go but didn't see any growlers. This was a really good visit, and the place is highly recommended as a pub for a great experience.

 

This was a weird place. It's a brewery, but they only had 2 off their own beers on tap and one sister brewery, and all three were not typical styles, ESB, saison, kolsch, which all can be great if done well but I have no expectations of them doing any of them will so I didn't even try them. Apparently the brewery in site is not brewing yet which is why.

11 other taps for other locals breweries, good selection and very good style variation.

The car was epoxy covered brown liquid pattern copper to look like wood grain, the rest was a big open brick and big wooden beam building with bare floors. Some art on the walls, the whole brewery wide open, and a bunch of large tables. They have a kitchen but I didn't try it. Very clean. Fairly loud semi obscure classic rock playing.

Bar tenders were not great, they ignored me for maybe 7/8 minutes while one of them talked to his friend, and the other guy just cleaned. They both saw me but for some reason didn't come over.

Also all young people, fairly hipster.

 

Just opened the day I visited. Best brewpub yet in SJ, perhaps a low bar to jump, but this is real progress. Super nice people. One to watch.
