Wow! Where did yesterday Gose?!? I set off on what I envisioned as a short exCANsion back to The CANQuest (tm) to drink some Goses & Pilsners, both towards Leveling up for badges on sister (?) site, Untappd. Once again, it was like tugging on a loose thread on a sweater & having everything unravel! The entire day was spent drinking seven (7) Goses & one (1) whole Pilsner. 8=( Every time that I moved a sixer around, CANother Gose appeared! Well, today, I am starting out by taking my Pils, lemme tell ya!
From the CAN: "Northbound American Pilsner"; "Special Release".
I beCAN by Crack!ing open the vent on this one & CANtinued with a slow, gentle C-Line Glug into the awaiting glass. It foamed beautifully to form two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, bone-white head with very good retention. Color was Straw-Yellow (SRM = > 2, < 4) with NE-quality clarity. Nose was soft & fruity, hence their referring to it as an "American Pilsner". It definitely was NOT a BoHo Plis, so by default, it needed to be listed as a GER Pils, although the hop profile was clearly American. It smelled like melons - CANtaloupe & honeydew with a bready malt underlay. Mmm. Mouthfeel was medium, although after yesterday's anything Gose, everything feels big. The taste, while sweet & fruity, was not as intense as the nose had led me to expect. I still tasted honeydew & CANtaloupe, but it was backed with a less-sweet malt bill than I initially believed. It was still MUCH closer to a GER Pils though, than to a BoHo Pils. Finish was semi-sweet, bordering on semi-dry. Not bad, but there are other Pils that adhere more closely to the style. I would personally have preferred something more traditional. YMMV.

Great North Aleworks "Northbound American Pilsner"
1 PINT can, coded "NB 07/10/18 14:10:07 5.2% ABV"
Notes via stream of consciousness: So what exactly is an "American Pilsner"? Does it use American hops? Let's find out. It's poured a hazy yellow gold body beneath a finger thick head of fluffy bright white foam. The aroma suggests Pilsner malt and soft pine, and just a hint of lemon zest. On to the flavor... it's exactly the same. It's malty with some grain and grass and sweetness to it, and there's some very light, soft pine, and a hint of lemon. Maybe a bit of apple as well. A solid bitterness balances it and brings it to a mostly dry conclusion as a dollop of the sweet maltiness steadily fades. In the mouth it's medium bodied and crisp with a fine-bubbled, seemingly natural carbonation. So... I'm not sure why it's called an American Pilsner" other than it's made in America, but I can say it's better than a lot of the Pilsners I've had in Europe. Very nice. Worth trying.

A: crystal clear; pale gold in color; 1 finger white head that receded to a thin collar; no lacing;
S: corn, rice, and a little cracker;
T: follows the nose with an earthy bitterness on the finish;
M: medium bodied; moderate to high carbonation; moderately dry finish;
O: as an American pale lager it's fine, but the brewery calls this a pilsner;

Poured from a can dated 4/4/17 on 5/21/17. The color of the beer is a light yellow appearance. Light carbonation and a head that dissipates after a few minutes. Smells of wheat and contains a slight lemon note. A little bit of tail end bitterness that goes along with a flavor typical of pilsners. The lemon scent did not come through in the taste for me. Overall it is refreshing and better than the average pilsner.

From the 12 fl. oz. can dated 04/04/17. Sampled May 6, 2017.
Bright yellow pour with a slight chill haze and a boisterous white foamy heady that lasts the session.
The aroma has a bit of corn, vegetable, toasted bread, and a slight lemonzest.
The body is medium and very smooth.
I still pick up a corn-like vegetable flavor at first but it is the dry bitter ending that really stands out at the finish.

Can from the source.
Brilliantly clear deep yellow with a decent sized bubbly white head that persists. Sweet crackery pilsner maltiness with hints of spice and flowers on the nose. Initially a hint of skunk and green apple but that dissipated almost instantly. Rich crackery toasty malt flavor with some earthy spicy citrus hops and a touch of non descript fruit. Spirited carbonation gives a sharp tingle to the mouthfeel. Medium body. That's a pretty damn tasty lawnmower beer right there.
