I love the regular Cave Bear from Great North.... so always tickled to see a barrel-aged version....
It's a clear, rich, amber-mahogany colored libation. Has a frothy, creamy, light beige head, sitting steadily at about 1/2", with A-1 lacing. Aroma has a good dose of caramel and toffee, with a hint of brown sugar. Body is easily medium-plus, and the feel as it traverses the tongue is quite smooth.
Flavor has more toffee and caramel, a smidge of caramelized brown sugar, and some figs and dates. Red wine notes are present, but don't add too much to the overall flavor profile. Has some earthy, floral hopping action in the finish. A solid brew, though I do prefer the Bourbon-aged version better.... Cheers!
