As a home brewer, I am intreagued with this beer. It really smells like peanut butter....imagine opening a fresh jar of peanut butter, although it occasionally has scents of nutty buddy bars. The complexion is black, with not any head. I wondered about the fats from the peanut, but the beer isn’t oily or rancid. The taste is balanced....lots of similar peanut butter flavor. It doesn’t taste like beer....at all. But, it is intreaguing, interesting, and I’m impressed with how the brewers crafted the beer.

this beer got my hopes up for nothing. It's not terrible, but it could have been so much better.

Pours a dark brown with a peanut butter colored head. Smells of peanut butter and wheat. Unfortunately, it was rather tasteless outside of the nutty aftertaste. Mouthfeel is light. Overall, okay beer. Had so much more potential in the taste though.

I feel like to properly explain this beer I need to start from the beginning. I was feeling rather melancholy today and wanted to try something new to add some excitement to my day so I traveled down to the local liquor store and began the waltz thru the store slowly reading the labels of all the different craft brews available. And then I came across Peanut Butter Back 40....
The can states that its brewed in Illinois in some obscure town I've never heard of and that it was a wheat ale brewed to have the taste of Peanut Butter. The can looks nice and touts an unimpressive 4.7% ABV and an 11 IBU rating, and it sports a price tag in my local store of $9.99.
Upon opening the can, I of course took that initial wiff and it faintly reminded me of a peanut. I poured the beer into a glass and it barely foamed at all leaving a depressing foam ring around only the edge of the glass. It was pitch black and didn't coat that glass at all. Having it in a cup, i now smelled it again and a little more peanut smell was floating in the air. I then took the first sip, it was terribly bland and fizzy feeling like seltzer water. It had no weight to it at all and the flavor of peanut butter (or anything) was totally absent. It tasted nothing like advertised. It was a very weak, bland and empty tasting beer that packed an disappointed 4.7% for a price tag that could have bought a six pack of Dirty Bastard at 8.1% that taste eons better than this peanut butter water.
Do not buy, not only is it a waste of time, but also your funds. Yet another disappointing beer from Illinois. They just can't make beer.

12oz can. Poured out a clear, amber color with a small, off-white head of foam. It smelled of peanut butter, wheat and caramel. Sweet peanut butter taste with a light bitterness.
