brewery seasonal draft. Pours clean bright gold, mostly see through. White foam. Soapy nose. Light spiced malt, watery, with a peppery malt. Very clean and with a modest bitter. Citrus. Wheaty mouthfeel, quite thick. Nicely made hefe and just a little different.

DATE: July 16, 2016... OCCASION: chilling at home after a trip to the Land of Make Believe with Jer and the fam.... GLASSWARE: Weihenstephan weizen... pours from an hour-filled growler a light golden body with active sizzle and a bulbous two-finger white head that caps the 22 oz. glass... mostly clear with singular bubbles here and there--filtered for certain... the head leaves arching tentacles as the glass drains... bubblegum, banana, and some clove--the intrinsic expectations of a hefe... soft, mildly damp and sifting to the throat without much body... the aftertaste suggests a maltiness that should probably not be there--or is it the wheat mixed with something else? effervescence comes with a subtle flourish... a second sip is sweeter, with the aromatic elements arriving as promised... some floral and lemon grass notes mingle with the aforementioned... an easily sippable, thirst-quenching style that is situated well in its element....

I had this on draught at the brewery. It poured a hazy, golden-yellow color with a foamy, milk-white head and lacing. It did not have much of a smell - mostly cracker and smoke (which surprised me for a hefe). The taste featured banana, clove, yeast, and other spice but it was rather muted compared to the more famous German beers of this style. It was light, refreshing, and easy to drink with an ABV of 5%. Overall, I thought the smoky smell was intriguing but the taste was rather bland for a Hefe.
