DATE: JULY 6, 2018... OCCASION: Hanging at Jer's in State College, watching the boys play Mario Party and enjoying an NJ import... pours from a day-old growler a healthy off-white head that settles nicely to a quarter-finger's halo... the body approaches bronze in color, with a steady stream of bubbles... looks hearty yet refreshing... first hint is a toasted bread malt that provides ample backbone, with oat and honey merging with light floral hops and a brassy, metallic coupling... earthy, bordering on bold, and not at all the 4.6% ABV advertised in its fill aroma... sips densely and quickly, leaving a rusty finish after a medium-bodied rush through the mouth... a chewiness suggests more hops than expected too... burnt toffee, light caramel, hard fruits like apple and pear, fresh flowers and, yes, the metallic ping that I want from this style... sweet and refreshing, this checks a few boxes while making for a solid summer sipper...
