Czig Meister Brewing Co. "Deep Sea Series - Lekker"
16 fl. oz. can, "CANNED ON 11/15/19 08:31:19"
$3.49 @ Roger Wilco, Pennsauken, NJ
Notes via stream of consciousness: Ahh, a beautiful New England style IPA. Well, not really, I kind of find the cloudy body to be a bit ugly. It's a golden, almost tan color beneath an inch or so of creamy off-white foam. The aroma expresses piney, woody notes, and pineapple over some sweetish malt. There's a little more to it than that, some papaya, passion fruit, red berries, and maybe some guava, but the pine/wood and pineapple are the main notes. The flavor offers more, including a lot of hop resin, more spicy woodiness, some orange/tangerine, more berries, melon, and some citrus (grapefruit, lemon). The malt is basic as it should be, and a firm bitterness leads to a dry finish. It lingers with a woody spiciness and soft pine that's a refreshing change from the other juicy NE IPAs that are out there. It has the smooth mouthfeel that it should have, and I'm assuming they've used some oats to help get that extra protein. It's medium bodied and smooth with a median carbonation. Looking back it's left some very nice lacing about the glass. I hate to gie a murky beer a 4.25 out of 5 but that is the style. In the end I'm quite happy with this. Czig Meister's been turning out some really nice stuff and this is no exception. Could it be a little more balanced and refined, yes, but at the same time it's fairly unique in a style that's getting a lot of play right now. Well done!
