Post Great Taste brewery mini-tour stop #1.
Happened upon this place pretty much by accident, though I'd read it was opening last year.
The most amusing thing was the name, since Viking in Dallas, WI sold their name to an Icelandic brewery and became Valkyrie a few years ago. Guess they missed the memo.
The brewpub is located on the main drag in Stoughton (Main Street). It has a new feel with lots of woodwork and shiny floors and tabletops, flatscreens above the bar, itself made to look like the prow of a Viking ship. An open window beyond that contains the brew house. Atmosphere is a little sterile considering the Nordic theme.
Service at the bar was ok, the bartender didn't offer much info about the beers or the place, even when we made it clear it was our first time in. We chatted with some older patrons about the beer fest.
They had 4 house beers on and 4-5 craft taps, and more in cans/bottles. They were better than average though not especially memorable. A blood orange saison sounded good but it was more of a boozy strong pale than anything. Black ale and cream ale were probably the best two.
Overall it's worth a stop if passing through, stop and check out Wendigo while you're here for some variety.
