Meh. Too sweet for an IPA. Walnut Grill for my birthday with my parents. Very little in bitterness. Coconut is very forward. It grows on me as I drink it.

Today is apparently #IPADay so I am happy to celebrate with a CAN from a PA brewer to help with The CANQuest (tm)!

From the CAN: "IBU 15".

I was anxious to start the CANebration so I Crack!ed open the vent & beCAN a slow, gentle C-Line Glug. I was needlessly CANcerned with clarity, but as a Brut IPA, I needn't have been so careful. It quickly foamed up to form two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, bone-white head with very good retention. Color was Straw-Yellow (SRM = > 2, < 4) with NE-quality clarity. Nose had a bright citrusy & pine mintiness along with a strong coconut odor! Coconut! I love coconut, although I know that not everyone does. It was the odd flavor out in a roll of Tropical Fruit Life Savers when I was a kid, but I liked it. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was an odd, almost clashing, admixture of flavors. It beCAN with a grapefruit citrusiness, became briefly minty & then just exploded with coconut! I liked the way that it remained dry & bitter while still incorporating a coconut sweetness. Yum. Finish was semi-dry & highly refreshing. As to my scores - I liked it, but coconut does not make for a good example of the style, which is what the ratings are supposed to be based on. YMMV.

$9.99/4Cans 16oz. Pours very light yellow, best served chilled. It smells hoppy, not too severe, it's pleasant in fact. It does have a respectable hop bite, as opposed to a citrus bite or fresh plant taste, right where I like it. The can says it's 15 IBUs, and it's got as much bite as a White Rajah, so I suspect it's dry-hopped, which is probably what Brut means. It has a light body and is poundable. I can barely taste the coconut, way back on the pallet. The rest of it is a nice, 6.0% ABV golden ale, light bodied and crushable.

This is a solid pick and you can't go wrong for the price. Unfortunately the garish packaging and use of coconut additive makes a weak seller. Pick Fool's Gold Imperial Peanut Butter Hefeweizen from Rusty Rail instead, it is a phenominal product by itself or mixed with Guinness or Ice cream.
